“I believe that both public and private sectors people working together, at peasant and commercial, including cooperatives will increase availability of nutrition, so that no Zambian goes to school, work, Church hungry. Banda implored the Minister of Agriculture, Rueben Mtolo Phiri and his Permanent Secretary Mr. Green Mbao to provide a Climate Resilient and Climate Smart Agriculture by leveraging on Zambia’s National Resources and pristine endowments; land, water resources, traditional and non traditional crops, fish and livestock, human capital, governance systems, agricultural policies, and the enterprising spirit of local people.
“We must liberalise the agriculture sector by making the acquisition of farming land easier and cheaper for Zambians. We also need to invest more in cold chains, grain storage, commodity exchanges, reliable and affordable power supply to farm blocks and rural areas so that we can assist in accelerating mechanisation,” said Banda, a renowned Citizen Journalist (CJ).
Equally targeting to interact with Fisheries and Livestock Minister, Makozo Chikote, and his PS, Anna Songolo Banda remains prayerful meant that the UPND Alliance New Dawn Administration led by Mr. Hichilema and Vice President, Witner Kapembwa Mutale-Nalumango are providing farmers with more extension services, pest and disease control services, and continuous training in organic and environmentally friendly farming techniques to induce higher agro-productivity.
Banda says enhanced food security, resources must deployed towards fertilizer production, and agro infrastructure to build good roads leading to farming areas, water harvesting facilities, irrigation channels, food processing zones, and the promotion of linkages within the agro-value chain.
‘Food security is guaranteed through long term affordable agro-finance, inexpensive farming inputs, uptake of new technologies, exposure to improved farming techniques, marketing, commercialising of traditional farming knowledge, continuous scientific research, and the strengthening of linkages between small holder farmers and commercial farmers.
