Livingstone District Commissioner Eunice Nawa has urged the newly
recruited teachers not to use social media to communicate official
government information.
Ms. Nawa stated that new teachers should be equipped with the
knowledge, skills, and competence to perform their duties and
responsibilities in the public sector.
Ms. Nawa said this in a speech read on her behalf by Livingstone District
Accountant, Ilunga Lumpa, at Mulwani Combined School during orientationof 127 teachers from a total of 30,496.
“We expect you to provide efficient service to the general public,
particularly in the Livingstone District where you are posted, and to
have an impact on changing your learners and society in general,” Ms.
Nawa said.
Ms. Nawa said discipline of the newly recruited teachers is a matter of
concern to district authorities.
“You must be aware that you are now employed by the Government and you
should desist from involving yourselves in illegal activities or unprofessional conduct, which is against the ethics of the Public Service. You should not communicate Government official information through social media,” Ms. Nawa said.
Ms. Nawa said the new teachers ensure that they follow the laid down
procedures, rules and regulations contained in the terms and conditions of service for the public service.
Ms Nawa stated that the disciplinary code and procedure for dealing
with offences in the public sector
She said the orientation and induction of the new teachers should
prepare them for the task ahead as educators.
“This number will greatly reduce the pupil teacher ratio to about 1
teacher to 40 pupils in the district, hence improving quality education delivery,” Ms Nawa said.
Ms. Nawa said the government was doing everything possible to look after
the welfare of the teachers and promised the new teachers that they
would be paid their entitlements.
Livingstone District Education Board Secretary (L-DEBS) Aiden Kambunga said the recruitment of 127 teachers was unprecedented as in the past he only
used to receive 11 teachers.
Mr. Kambunga said he is hopeful that this will reduce the teacher-pupil ratio.
He said all the teachers who have been employed have been deployed to
where their services are required.
Mr. Kambunga said the new teachers should be serious about work
because that is what is expected of them.
