Former Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lusaka Telesphore George Mpundu insists that Zambia is no longer a Democratic State on account of opposition political parties being denied a chance to to mobilize and meet existing and prospective members countrywide.
Emeritus Archbishop Mpundu wants all political parties to be given an opportunity to advertise themselves as Zambia heads to the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government poll on Thursday 12th August 2021.
Archbishop Mpundu told Kwilanzi News Zambia in an interview in Lusaka that there is no level political playing ground as evidenced by the selective manner law enforcement officers treat opposition parties once a seven-day notification is lodged.
OCIDA LAUNCHED
And Archbishop Mpundu has opposed the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s decision to propose an increase in the nomination fees for candidates at Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government level.
The former Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lusaka viewed the electoral body’s hiked fees as a ploy to eliminate opposition political parties from effectively contesting the 2021 elections.
