UNITED Party for National Development [UPND] Chairperson for Rural Reconstruction and development, Moono Mapani has described as blackmail President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s decision to create a K30 million youth empowerment scheme for artistes countrywide, introduced a week after young people staged a Digital Bush Protest in Lusaka.
An audibly hurt Mr. Mapani tells Kwilanzi News Zambia in an interview in Lusaka that the K30 million Political Carrot offered by President Lungu is a clear indication that Zambian Government is in panic mode as elections near.
Mr. Mapani wondered where the money had come from as President Lungu had not indicated it’s budget line thus describing move as being politically motivated.
And Mr. Mapani believes that the Patriotic Front missed an opportunity to effectively address youthful concerns by the apparent refusal to let young people publicly share grievances hold a peaceful demonstration on Monday 22nd June 2020.
Mr. Mapani admonished Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo to acknowledge demonstrations as a civilised means of an aggrieved individual and citizens to convey civil and political grievances to duty bearers.
The UPND Chairperson for Rural Reconstruction and Development unacceptable for Mr. Kampyongo, a Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament (MP) in Shiwang’andu, Muchinga Province to encourage the police to use maximum force to gag the youths from conveying a legitimate good governance demand.
