LUSAKA, Thursday 13th February, 2020 – The University of Zambia (UNZA) and the National Savings and Credit (NATSAVE) Bank have partnered in efforts aimed at mitigating climate change.
Global warming has been described as the greatest threat facing humanity with potential to cause significant climate change with dire consequences for humanity and the environment.
It is against this background that the two partners have taken measures to reduce the negative effects of climate change.
The partnership that involves the planting of two hundred (200) trees at UNZA Main Campus grounds is a commitment that both institutions are alive to the fact that fighting climate change needs concerted efforts and a systematic development of innovative solutions to conserve the environment.
Both institutions are committed to supporting initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change including soft adaptation programs for the benefit of both urban and rural communities of Zambia.
The “Plant a Tree” campaign is an initiative of the University of Zambia Alumni Relations and Advancement Unit (ARA) aimed at climate change mitigation by planting a total of one thousand (1000) trees around the grounds of UNZA’s two campuses – Main and Ridgeway. So far, about six hundred (600) trees have been planted.
