THE Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) is not selling the Times of Zambia (ToZ) says Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda-Jangulo.
In a Thursday, 5th May, 2022 Statement on the Times Printpak Zambia Limited, Ms. Kasanda-Jangulo allayed fear raised that Government intends to sell the ToZ.
Referring to a Wednesday, 4th May, 2020, as part of the commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD), Brainstorming Session, Kasanda-Jangulo recollected that President Hakainde Hichilema engaged in a with the media on topical issues affecting the industry and Haroon Ghumra raised the ToZ matter to which President Hakainde Hichilema responded that the future of Times Printpak Zambia Limited lay in it being profitable.
In this regard, President Hichilema advanced a view that one of the solutions to address the challenges faced by the Times Printpak Zambia Limited lay in commercializing the entity.
“This did not mean that Government wants to sell the Times Printpak Zambia Limited.
Government is aware of anxieties by some clients that are doing business with the Times Printpak Zambia Limited that the entity is being sold.
To the contrary, the discussion during the meeting yesterday, was exploratory in finding solutions to the challenges faced by the Times Printpak Zambia Limited. At no point did President Hichilema say Government had decided to sell the Times Printpack Zambia Limited,” noted Ms. Kasanda-Jangulo, a United Party for National
Development (UPND) Chisamba Member of Parliament (MP) in the Central Province.
According to Ms. Kasanda-Jangulo advised Times Printpak Zambia Limited clients to continue their business interactions with the company as it is not being sold as per their fear.
