On International Migrants Day, the United Nations is appealing for cooperation in managing migration to ensure that its benefits are most widely distributed, and that human rights of all concerned are protected – as recognized by the 2030 Agendafor Sustainable Development. “Evidence overwhelmingly shows that migrants generate economic, social and cultural benefits for societies everywhere,” said Secretary-General António Guterres in his message commemorating the International Day, marked annually on 18 December. “Yet,” he continued, “hostility towards migrants is unfortunately growing around the world. LUSAKA, 11TH DECEMBER 2017 The Civil Society Constitution Agenda (CiSCA) strongly condemns the high-handedness and brutal manner in which the police have of late been handling the public but in particular students’ affairs and grievances. A case in point is the recent incident at the Copperbelt University where the police brutally quelled a students’ demonstration, and the Ministry of Higher Education’s decision to dissolve the students’ union and suspend union activities at the same institutions.
