Senior citizens deserve better, pleads Olipa Phiri-Mwansa

Community Development and Social Services Minister Olipa Phiri-Mwansa says elderly people in society should be recognized for the contribution in building a strong and peaceful Zambia with developing families.
Barely a fortnight after replacing Patriotic Front Luapula Member of Parliament Emerine Kabanshi, Ms. Phiri-Mwansa says her ministry has embarked on focusing effort to improve elderly people’s welfare, in collaboration with Health Minister, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.
Officiating at the ‘2018 Global Elderly People Day’, annually commemorated on 1st October under the auspices of the United Nations (UN), at the Civic Center in Lusaka, Ms. Phiri-Mwansa restated Government commitment to ensure that elderly people have access to regular income and legal representative, a vow attested through the Social Cash Transfer (SCT).
“Government will continue to issue grocery hampers and of mealie meal to the ageing citizens beyond the launch of the Elderly People’s Day,” assured Ms. Phiri-Mwansa, a Patriotic Front (PF) Nyimba in the Eastern Province.
