MOTHER Zambia and every government of the day should step-up and impose herself to the world by rewrite her successful milestone achievements through Commemorating ‘Armistice Day’ that remembers world war 1 and world 2 heroes ,heroines and Lake Chila in the deadliest conflict, which was fought between 1914 and 1945.
Educationists and economists, the Military, hospitality industry and the media in Zambia must embark on a vigorous campaign to help market and advertise the great lake Chila situated in Mbala, formerly Abercorn, where the last gun shots of the World War 2 were fired and weapons thrown in to the Zambian lake, marking the end of the World War on Sunday 25th November, 1945.
Our British counterparts that colonized many African countries including Zambia the home to Mbala uses sports particularly football and multiple beach sport to celebrate fallen World war heroes and heroines, every year paying homage by designing soccer shirts with a Red flower called “Poppy”, which they wear from the period of 10th October to 10th November every year, and play short interludes of solemn music with trumpets which depicts peace and harmony before football matches start.
The campaign to claim the hard earned ‘rich history’ must be consistent since we live in a world that forgets easily and creativity through sports and art annually would help remind the world about the sacrifice and endurance Zambia’s forefathers went through or else the great nation will remain a nonentity if no action is taken moving forward.
We as legendary sports writers and broadcasters led by Ashton Kelly Bunda who came up with the ‘National Sports Day’ and ‘Zambia Sports Day’ respectively in the 2006 in conjunction with primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, universities and Sports Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) are inspired by the English soccer league and the British army ,who put on a red flower red button called “poppy,” on their football jerseys, military uniforms and ordinary clothes and also inspired by the ‘Visit Rwanda advertisement on the English Premier League shirt sleeves worn by Arsenal football club and Arsenal stadium electronic advertising boards all sponsored by the Rwandan Government to enhance tourism in Rwanda.
Rwanda gained international talking-point status on account of internal genocide involving the ethnic clash between the Tutsi and Hutu people in 1994 , fuelled by the media and church propaganda merchants to cause civil strife and mass killings.
We the legendary sports writers and broadcasters who came-up with the National Sports Day and Zambia Sports Day will be waiting and anticipating for creativity and out of the box thinking as well as tangible results from the ministry of sports and youth, Ministry of tourism, ministry of information and broadcasting, ministry of defense, and seek help from the cabinet ministers and head of state to achieve the goals.
The trained media personnel, and houses, bloggers, genuine Facebook account owners should make contributions, in a positive way.
It is believed that the government of Rwanda pumped in about $3million dollars to advertise on the English premier league Arsenal shirt (Visit Rwanda) campaign and stadium adverting boards in England.
