Sink more boreholes in Shibuyungi District, Village Headman Muchende prods Zambian Government

VILLAGE HEADMAN Muchende of the Sala Speaking People of Senior Chief Shakumbila’s Chiefdom of Shibuyungi District has appealed to Government to sink more boreholes in that community.
Headman Muchende said the people in the area were walking long distances to fetch water because at the moment boreholes were in some selections of that community.
He said Muchende community has got 12 villages and over 950 households, but instead of each village to have at least four to six boreholes, some villages didn’t even have any water source forcing residents to be walking to nearby villages to fetch water.
Speaking in an interview recently, the village headman said government and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) should consider looking into the plight of the residents of that community by sinking more boreholes.
And Village Headwoman Mulose echoed similar concerns, saying lack of enough boreholes in the area had negative impact on residents.
She said walking longer distances to fetch water was derailing some families from concentrating on farming activities.
She said the few boreholes which were there were also subjected to continuous breakdowns.
Headwoman Mulose said for a long time now resident were appealing to government and other well-wishers to help them by sinking more boreholes in the area.
