Aggrey Chiyangi recounts path to Green Eagles FC

CHIYANGI RECOUNTS PATH TO GREEN EAGLES

AGGrey Chiyangi’s dream of becoming a professional footballer and a coach started way back while at school in Kitwe the third largest city in Zambia.
Chiyangi born in a family of eight to Mr and Mrs Jonas Chiyangi he played for a school team at Wusakile Primary School and later went on to play for Kitwe Boys Secondary School from 1979 to 1983.
While still playing for a school team at primary level
little Chiyangi described the match against Butotelo as one of the worst moments during his school days.
“I played position 6 in the field and during that game i was substituted something which pained me a lot,” he says.
This memory sparked his drive to become an expert tactician on the field.
After completing school Chiyangi was signed by Power Dynamos in 1984 to 1997 before he went into a brief coaching career from1984 to 2005.
During his spell at Power Chiyangi had a privilege to play with players like Alex Chola and Peter Kaumba under Fred Mwila’s management.
He played for the National Team from 1993 to 1997 under coach Alex Chola the late.
The former Power Dynamos defensive midfielder has managed to coach teams like Green Buffaloes, Nkana,Zanaco, Power Dynamos and Lobtrans Guners FC of Botswana.
He is currently head coach at Green Eagles and has also served in on the technical bench for the National Team.
Chiyangi describes the qualification of Green Eagles to the ( CAF) Champions League and(CAF) Confederation Cup as historical.
“Taking Green Eagles to CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation has been one of my greatest and historical moments in my coaching career,” he says.
He pays tribute to Zambia National Service who are the sponsors of Green Eagles Football Club.
“The atmosphere in the dressing room is always supperb because of the ZNS Command with an weavering support to the team,” he says.
In future Chiyangi would love to see Choma Independence Stadium the home ground to Grean Eagles being developed into a modern stadium and host international matches.
The gaffer says he wants to be remembered as someone who encouraged young players to believe in God, achieve big in life and not believing in Juju.
Green Eagles coach cited Isaac Chansa and Kennedy Mweene as some of players he mentored and groomed.
Chiyangi holds a Licence C,B and A in coaching as well as being a qualified football instructor.
“So basically my footballing Career was built up in Wusakile thanks to my uncle Noah Kawanu for playing a big role in my childhood,” he says.
When asked if he supports any European team Chiyangi was too quick to mention Barcelona.
” I am fan of Barcelona and my son Victor Chiyangi is Manchester United,,,,and i always find it a challenge when two teams meet to have a peace of mind,” he says.
Chiyangi says his children have a choice to decide what they want to become in life and won’t impose football as a profession on any of them.
Away from football Chiyangi born in 1964 was married to the late Marian and together they had 5 children.
He later remarried Betty Chawinga with whom they have three Children all living in Choma district.
He spends his spare time with his family and friends and reading Bible scriptures.
