Former Zambia’s High Commissioner to Canada Nevers Sekwila Mumba has questioned governments quietness over the alleged harassment of African nationals living in China in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Off late, social and international news media outlets have been flooded with reports of Africans nationals and students living and studying in China being racially discriminated against amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
Some Africans living in the Chinese capital, Beijing were reportedly evicted from their individual apartments a few days ago over fears that the ‘victimized’ individuals were carrying the Coronavirus while others were refused entry into hotels.
But when reached for a comment in Lusaka, Dr. Mumba who is New Hope Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President expressed disappointment as Government Ministers remained silent on the matter.
Dr. Mumba, formerly Zambia’ Vice President worried that instead of protecting the interests of citizens, the Zambian Consulate in Guangzhou, through Consular Daniel Chisenga acted indifferently by refusing to confirm a correct picture involving victimized Zambian nationals.
