The Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia has welcomed the decision by government to launch a Television Channel designed to allow Pupils to study while schools are closed due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
BETUZ General Secretary Henry Sinkala says the programme is okay if well implemented as it is imperative not to leave any pupil behind regardless of one’s geographical location.
Mr. Sinkala has however expressed concern that putting the Educational Chanel on Top Star Decoder will mean that pupils across the country, from households with GOtv decoders and other brands will lose out, as parents and guardians have to buy a Top Star decoder which is a costly undertaking.
The BETUZ General Secretary has told Kwilanzi News Zambia in an interview in Lusaka that some families will find it difficult to have access to the education channel as they will fail to buy the extra decoder due to financial constraints.
Mr. Sinkala has appealed to the Zambian government through General Education Minister David Mabumba to call for a stakeholder meeting and ensure that the education lessons are provided to all the children via the tele-learning platform that is spread on all Zambian decoders.
