ZAMBIA National Education Coalition Executive Director (ZANEC) Grace Manyonga says Education is the foundation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and if the target to improve education is not achieved by 2030 then the rest the developmental goals will not succeeded, reports Ashton Kelly Bunda.
Manyonga Emphasized that is no critical thinking in institutions of higher education due to luck of extensive research, hence compromising academic freedom and resulting in mediocre human resource in future and that ZANEC has been working on promoting academic freedoms that would enhance quality delivery of education in tertiary institutions of learning.
Ms. Manyonga lamented that the current amount of funds of research lives much to be desired as allocated resources cannot promote academic freedoms .
Manyonga explained that Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) is advocating for clear regulations and status that govern academic freedoms.
“The media must be proactive in reporting and doing investigative journalism on institutions of higher learning. ZANEC observes with great concern that most what is reported in media is rioting, yet there are a lot of issues affecting students and overall academic environments which go unreported. The library at the University of Zambia (UNZA) is in a sorry state and needs rehabilitation and the challenge has been compounded by lack of funds for extensive research, South Korea was chosen to host the Global Technology Forum (GTF), “Manyonga passionately pleaded.
