UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) is talking tough and seeking immediate dissolution of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) currently led by Justice Essau Chulu and Elections Director, Priscilla Isaacs.
Flanked by former Vice-President Dr. Guy Scott, Vice-President for Administration Geoffrey Bwalya, Secretary General (SG) Steven Katuka and Spokesperson Charles Kakoma, Hichilema restated a position seeking dissolution of the ECZ.
Speaking at a Grand Hotel Media Briefing in Lusaka, Hichilema expressed reservations on the performance of the electoral body, currently embroiled in lost credibility.
“Citizens are suffering on account of the ECZ imposing the Patriotic Front (PF) Government against wishes of voting patterns and interests of a majority Zambians,” Hichilema lamented.
On suggestions urging the UPND to convene a National Conference, Mr. Bwalya, a former Defense Minister argued that it is a far-fetched dream to make such demands.
“Do we need a Convention, or are we short of leadership, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba taunted detractors as the auditorium of UPND cadres responded stating: “No, we are not short of leaders.
This response resulted in Hichilema whispering into a Bwalya’s ear after which the former Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama Member of Parliament (MP) let the cat out of the hat: “The President (HH) has just reminded me that just as I had indicated of having a vibrant and intelligent leader, he too believes that I am vibrant and intelligent.”
