Bishop Edward Chomba strengthens Kasama MP Kelvin Mutale Sampa Picture by Derrick Sinjela
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Kasama Central Member of Parliament . (MP) Kelvin Mutale Sampa buried his Elder Sister and family pillar, Ms Chanda Doris Sampa at Leopards Memorial Park Lusaka Tuesday 26th December 2017.
After a requiem mass at Lusaka’s St. Ignatius parish, presided by Deacon Paul Bwalya and Deacon Lazarous Mbukwa Chewe, , Patriotic Front Deputy Spokesperson, Father Frank Bwalya conveyed President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s grief over the demise of Ms. Sampa.
And Water Affairs, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Permanent Secretary (PS) Bishop Dr. Edward Chomba encouraged the bereaved family to soldier as the departed relation is in perfect hands of the Creator.
On his part, Deacon Bwalya strengthened the family to remain steadfast as Catholics believed in death as a point marking a new journey, transitioning into a new life.
“Catholics believe that death though painful is not an end as its presence marks a new chapter in the life of Christians. Though, physically, we die here on earth, it is not the end as once we die, we begin another journey in life,” Deacon Bwalya implored mourners and Christians.
“One thing that first struck me was when I was at the time doing Grade One that I noticed that my immediate elder sister, Chanda Doris Sampa was not like us. She was difference and while, we some of us as Children grew excited, she was different and never respond to touts. I later asked my late dad why my sister could not react to provocation? However, as a family, we never separated our sibling but openly accepted her as she was,” reminisced Mr. Sampa.
The Kasama parliamentarian recollected that establishment of National Initiative for Citizens Awareness (NICA) was largely inspired by late Ms..Doris Sampa’s compassion for nedy people.
“She taught me to be patient with people and as harmless as a person, my Elder Sister Doris Chanda Sampa, was an inspiration behind and besides National Initiative for Citizens Awareness, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), which I created. I never stopped mentioning her plight and as a family, we l learnt to live with a person of personality. To greater, extent even the Chileshe Chepela project, I was prompted to buy a four by four land cruiser vehicle because of my late elder sister. Just as people play different roles in changing ideals and values, our family’s philantrophy is attributed to my sister,” said Sampa.
Perhaps as a mark of placing community and common good above self, the late Ms, Chanda Doris Sampa never celebrated her birthday, a development that prompted Mr. and Mrs. Sampa to provide a mobile phone.
“Even when she lacked basics, my sister would not presssurise us with calls despite possessing a mobile phone,” said Mr. Sampa.
Father Bwalya explained that President Lungu would have loved to be present as a parent but could not be in more than one place at a particular time.
“If it were possible, President Lungu could easily have split himself to be everywhere as a parent. I can only assure you that the PF as a party sends condolences to the Sampa family through me,” said Father Bwalya.
Expressing solace, Bishop Dr. Chomba acknowledged that despite being an orthodox preacher, Deacon Paul Bwalya and Deacon Lazarous Mbukwa Chewe did not err in conducting funeral rites at Church and during burial.
In guiding mourners, Bishop Dr. Chomba narrated that a certain believer approached a priest seeking a solution to a quest to rest eternally, after which the subject was advised to go and insult the dead.
“The believer responded in the affirmative and insulted the dead after heeding the pastors’ counsel. But upon reaching home, the believer, could not have a good night as he was haunted. In the morning, the believer returned to complain about the ordeal. The believer later grudgingly returned and praised the dead,” narrated Bishop Dr. Chomba.
After falling to find sleep and peace on the third night, the believer complained but the priest advised him never to worry but continue doing good as the dead did not respond to insults and commendations.
“My advice to you mourners is that once insulted or commended, you must never respond. It was just recently, that I had a chat with our beloved sister at a Twangale Park wedding. It was just two days ago that I received a call from Hon. Sampa that Ms. Chanda Doris Sampa had died and my wife and I started preparing to go to Kasama,” explained Bishop Dr. Chomba.
And Bupe, described the late Ms. Chanda Doris Sampa as a perfect parent beyond reproach.
“I will not say bye to my mother but just encourage us all to say see you later, as I believe that we shall meet,” said Mr. Bupe Sampa.
