Dangote hands over laboratory, 2 classroom blocks to Lupiya Combined School in Ndola’s Masiti District

DANGOTE Cement Zambia Limited (DCZL) has constructed a one-by-two laboratory and one-by-two classroom block at Lupiya Combined School in Senior Chief Chiwala’s Area, Lonshi Road, Masaiti District on the Copperbelt Province.
Handing over the properties to the school, Dangote Cement Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vipul Agrawal said that the laboratory and classroom blocks had been constructed at the cost of K400,000.00
The laboratory and a two classroom block, was handed over to Lupiya Combined School in Masaiti in the Copperbelt Province on Tuesday, 15th February, 2022, at a colourful handover ceremony, a Dangote Cement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) gesture cemented by a pouring of rain as District Commissioner Ennie Matutu and Argawal cut the ribbon witnessed by Masaiti Council Chairperson Andrew Lumano.
“This one by two laboratory at the cost of about K343,314 and one by two classroom block which cost about K100,000 which was built by Dangote Cement Zambia Limited”, Mr. Agrawal said in Masaiti District which has two Members of Parliament (MP’s) Patriotic Front’s (PF) Mr. Micheal Katambo for Masaiti and Kafulafuta Independent MP Jeffrey Mulebwa.
Mr. Agrawal further said that apart from the laboratory, Dangote Cement Zambia has also refurbished one by two-classroom block.
He said Dangote will continue to dedicate its time in assisting the New Dawn Government led by of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and Vice President, Reverend Witner Kapembwa Mutale-Nalumango in line with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Mr. Agrawal also emphasized that Dangote has worked closely with the school management and the Government of Zambia through the ministry of Education in fulfilling this project and we appreciate the role played in overseeing this project.
And speaking at the same event, Dangote Cement Zambia Limited Plant Director Mr. Xavier Kennedy expressed happiness that handing over of the refurbished laboratory and classroom block to Lupiya Combined School in Masaiti was now a reality.
“I believe these two projects will go a long way in ensuring that the school advances and serve the intended purpose”, Mr. Kennedy said.
Meanwhile, School Head Teacher, Ms. Musonda Mellony has expressed gratitude for the donation of a laboratory and two classroom blocks by Dangote Cement Zambia for her school.
Ms. Mellony has commended Dangote Cement Zambia for helping the school which has never had a laboratory since 1939.
“Most pupils at this school come from very far places walking distances as far as 20 kilometers. Some even stop schools due to lack of accommodation in this place”, Ms. Mellony said.
And Masaiti District Commissioner Ms. Ennie Matutu praised Dangote Cement Zambia for donating the laboratory and a classroom block to Lupiya Combined School.
“I am very happy that pupils will now be able to learn in a new environment at this school and I am very optimistic that from now onwards this school will produce graduates who will in turn also work for Dangote in future”, Ms Matutusaid.
And Mary Chapota, a grade 12 pupil, thanked the company on behalf of her fellow pupils, saying the donation will go a long way in helping pupils at the school.
“We thank Dangote Cement and the Government for this wonderful donation of a laboratory and a classroom block for our school”, Chapota said amid jubilation from fellow pupils.
Other pupils urged companies operating in the district to help improve communities as a way of giving back to the people.
Credited for World Class Cement at Affordable Cost, Dangote Cement Zambia Limited 1.5 mta plant in Ndola, 271km from Lusaka opened in the second quarter of 2015. The plant produces 42.5-grade cement to compete against the lower-grade but dominant 32.5 products in the market. Aside from selling into local markets in the Copperbelt region, it will export cement to the mining regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
Sustained economic growth will drive per-capita consumption upward from around 64kg at present with 240 million tonnes of limestone as reserves.
