Ministry of Agriculture in Samfya District Prepares for Fall Armyworms in the 2023/2024 Farming Season

In anticipation of the upcoming farming season, the Ministry of Agriculture in Samfya District is intensifying efforts to combat the threat of Fall Armyworms.
Agriculture officer Mr. Charles Lukwesa revealed that the ministry is set to initiate training sessions aimed at equipping farmers with effective control measures against the notorious pests.
Acknowledging reports of Fall Armyworm attacks in some fields, Mr. Lukwesa assured the public that the ministry is actively addressing the issue,and has advised farmers not to hesitate to use the current knowledge they have on pests control.
And Senior Agriculture officer Mr. Mathew Ndakasha confirmed the limited instances of pest attacks, reassuring farmers that the ministry is taking swift action.
” Farmers are being urged to continue reporting any pests attacks in their field so that the ministry can continue to work with them to eliminate these challenges,” Mr Ndakasha said.
He disclosed that block and camp officers are slated to undergo refresher training on pest control to enhance their capabilities in managing the situation.
Farmers in the district expressed gratitude to receive the training in order for them to safeguard their crops against the Fall Armyworm menace.
Speaking to the National Agriculture Information Service, Mr. Albert Mwila, a local farmer, voiced hope that the government would swiftly assist those affected, preventing further spread of the pests.
“This training is important because as you know the farming season is here and these pests usually attack this time, so we are happy that the government has responded quickly to us who are being affected by these fall armyworms,” Mr BWALYA said.
