UNITED States of America (USA) Ambassador to Zambia Eric Schultz is worried that Zambian adolescent girls and young women are increasingly at greater risk of HIV infection,” reports Zambian Photo-Journalist Ashton Kelly Bunda.
Ambassador Schultz says vulnerability to HIV infection confronts lot of people with varying community, social, economic, cultural and marital status.
In speech read by United States of America (USA) Charge d’ affairs Christopher Kraft, Ambassador Schultz observed that although HIV and AIDS is not in headlines, this category of health concern remains an emergency claiming innocent lives at a fast pace.
Officiating at the 2016 World AIDS Day at Lusaka’s Agricultural Commercial Show grounds themed “Hands Up for HIV Prevention,” Ambassador Schultz let the ‘Cat out of the Washington Hat’ that the outgoing 44th US Government of Barrack Obama, through The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has contributed over US$3 billion (three billion United States dollars) to Zambia’s HIV response since 2004.
“Due to these medical interventions and communication messages, PEPFAR continues to nurture closer partnerships with the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
“PEPFAR is currently supporting nearly 700,000 Zambians on Antiretroviral treatment and that since 2004, 1.2 million men have been medically circumcised in Zambia,” Ambassador Schultz explained.
Shultz expressed confidence that Minister of Health, Dr. Chilufya Chitalu will realize anticipated results on U.S. Government funded Zambia Population based HIV Impact Assessment Survey (ZAMPHIA).
