SIAVONGA District Commissioner Geoffrey Jakopo is calling on local companies operating in the district to prioritize employing Siavonga residents as casual workers as a way of empowering local people.
Spreading close ties with community members, Mr. Jakopo says he will soon engage local companies to ensure that casual workers such as sweepers, drivers and garden boys are employed from within Siavonga district.
Jakopo explained that local companies can employ from outside the district trained personnel experienced to do certain jobs such as engineers.
“It is not be fair to employ people from outside the district on untrained jobs as sweepers, drivers, and garden boys when the district has enough people that can do that,” protested Jakopo.
Jakopo noted that though people from other districts can be employed by local companies in his jurisdiction, priority must be Siavonga residents as a way of empowering local communities.
