Zambia National Men’s Network for Gender and Development (ZNMNGD) is urging government to operationalize the Gender Based Violence (GBV) fund meant to assist GBV Survivors and to speed up the establishment of ‘Safe Shelters’.
Making reference to the GBV Act 2011 as Zambia joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International Women’s Day (IWD) themed: ‘Gender Equality for a sustainable Tomorrow, ‘ZNMNGD `s National Coordinator Nelson Banda is concerned that despite a law having been passed by Patriotic Front (PF) Administration, all leaders are failing to implement the bylaw created to protect GBV survivors.
Mr. Banda said that GBV statistics released by the Zambia Police Service every quarter provide enough evidence for the establishment of the GBV Fund as a matter of urgency, hence greater need for the UPND Administration to set up a fund to enable more GBV Survivors access justice.
A journalist by profession Banda wants leaders to prioritize the setting up of this important fund like it gives attention to other activities.
Banda believes that the country has gone down because the voiced of women have been absent in the governance of the country and yet they constitute the majority of the population.
