Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) says the Church is running out of resources to continue exercising charity due to the continued Corona Virus pandemic and its effects everywhere in the word.
Right Reverend Moses Hamungole said this when he received the forth donation of various food stuff and hygienic materials from C & S Investments Representative George M. Chellah at Kapingila House in Lusaka’s Kabulonga area on Tuesday, 1st September, 2020.
During a handover ceremony witnessed by ZCCB Secretary General Reverend Cleophas Lungu, Caritas Zambia Executive Director, Eugene Kabilika, ZCCB Spokesperson Father Winfield Kunda and C&S Investments Company Secretary Dr. Bede Mphande, Rt. Rev. Hamungole who is Mongu Diocese Bishop said this time around the church in Zambia is challenged to raise resources within the country for her works of charity.
Bishop Hamungole has since appealed to all people to come and help in alleviating the suffering of the poor and all who least members of society.
“Therefore my brothers and Sisters, nothing is too little. For example, if many of us give a little, just even 2 Kwacha, it can go a long way in feeding the hungry. Imagine if a thousand of us contribute just a 5 Kwacha each month in a parish throughout Zambia between now and the end of December, 2020. This can be feed a number of families in our communities,” he said.
And Bishop Hamungole has said that as long as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage communities, the impact will not be on the health alone but also on social, economic and political sectors.
Bishop Hamungole said most people are feeling the impact of the pandemic both at home and work as some have lost jobs in the meantime the cost of living has gone high.
And speaking during the presentation of the donated items, C &S Investment’s representative George M. Chellah gave his company’s indebtedness to the Catholic for its genuine stance for the weak, disadvantaged and underprivileged segments of the population.
“At all times, you have answered the call to action to bring about a more equal society and practically demonstrated this by clothing, feeding, heeding and educating those who otherwise would not have access to any reasonable fulfillments of such needs,” said Mr. Chellah.

His Lordship Bishop Moses Hamungole
The Secretary General, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), Father Cleophas Lungu ,
The Company Secretary, C&S Investments Ltd, Dr. Bede Mphande
Invited guests, distinguished ladies and gentlemen,
Members of the Press
Firstly, I would like to say thank you to the ZCCB Secretariate and everybody who has been involved since we began this programme.
Such a brilliant, transparent and expansive outreach human support programme would not have materialized without the dedication, sacrifice and backing of everybody involved.
I must say it is an honour to be part of this partnership, which is designed to fulfil our duty of caring and assisting the vulnerable in our society during the covid pandemic.
As C&S Investments Limited, we remain indebted and humbled with the catholic Church’s genuine stand for the weak, disadvantaged and underprivileged segments of our population. At times, you have answered the call to action to bring about a more equal society and practically demonstrated this by clothing, feeding, healing and educating those who otherwise would not have access to any reasonable fulfillment of such needs.
It is for this reason that we feel inspired and motivated to partner with the Catholic Church in our continued efforts to contribute towards addressing one of the worst pandemics in recent history, the covid 19, which complacency turned the world on its head and continue to threaten further disruption to human life and endeavours.
It goes without saying that the poorer members of our communities are the worst affected, yet the least likely to have means to navigate the pandemic.
Your Lordship, I must mention that we are delighted to learn that our humble contributions have reached and touched many of those who sit at the farthest margin and those located at the deepest end of the troubled waters we find ourselves in today due to covid 19 pandemic. We have received feedback both from the ZCCB Secretariat and directly from beneficiaries from as far away places like Lundazi, Sefula, Monze, Mpika and many other places.
Let me say again that we will continue to support the Church in its humanitarian efforts even in future. C&S Investments Limited and indeed on my own behalf, I would like to express our gratitude to our medical personnel and all those in the frontline fighting this pandemic.
I thank you – C&S Investments Limited representative Mr. George M. Chellah
