Meet the MO: Bué Fixe 

European Youth Press works together with over twenty member organisations. Who are these organisations and what do they do? Every month we introduce one of the member organisations to our network of young media makers. This month it’s time for Bué Fixe. We had a chat with founder Dynka Amorim.

Join the Zero Ninety postcard exhibition and silent auction

European Youth Press is organising a unique postcard exhibition and silent auction, to raise money for our organisation; Zero Ninety. The event takes place on Thursday 8 December (7pm-10pm) in Berlin. The postcards have been created by refugees, children, students, journalists and artists from across Europe. It’s named “Zero Ninety” as it costs 90 cents to send a postcard from Germany to Syria. The postcards represent diverse perspectives on the theme of refugee flight and integration that illustrate the range of reactions that the waves of migration have provoked in people over the past two years. Call for: participants for mapping Europe workshop

Deadline: 7 December 2016

Press Club Brussels is hosting its first training workshop on 7 December. The workshop will focus on the mapping of EU topics based on public data. Participants will learn how to tell their stories through digital maps with large amounts of data available for each EU policy area. Participants will decide which is their area of specialization and the trainers will help to extract data, produce interactive maps and share them on the web to engage readers. Call for: team members for Middle East and North Africa Committee

Are you interested in the media, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa? And do you want to counter stereotypes and foster a cross-regional dialogue with your peers? Apply as a voluntary team member of the Middle East and North Africa Committee (menac) of the European Youth Press. Call for: graduate students interested in a transnational journalism degree

Deadline: 10 January 2017

The Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Journalism, Media and Globalisation welcomes applications from graduate students around the world. The programme aims to produce theoretically grounded and highly reflexive journalism candidates with transnational, global views on the intersection of journalism, media and globalisation. Students spend one year in Aarhus, Denmark, before moving to another European university to carry out their specialist focus in the second year of study. Call for: submissions for journalism competition

Deadline: 16 December 2016

Journalists from the 47 countries in the Council of Europe can now submit their work to the European Press Prize. The contest will award one applicant in five categories with €10,000 each for work that has made a significant impact. The categories are investigative reporting, distinguished writing, commentary, innovation and the judges’ special award. Applicants must submit one article or a samples from a series of articles, published online or in print, which have been published by a European publication between Dec. 1, 2015 and Dec. 31, 2016. Call for: female applicants for internship scholarship

Deadline: 31 December 2016

Young women are encouraged to apply for the first scholarship offered by the Lénaïc Fund for Journalism. The scholarships are meant for young women to do internships in European English speaking media in Brussels. Three major media outlets: Politico, Emlex and EU trade insights, have already agreed to host a trainee. The first scholarship will complete an internship of five months from March 2017. Scholarships are €5,000. Each trainee will have to write a report at the end of their internship describing their achievements. Journalists who use Facebook in their work and that want to learn about the tools and service of the website, can access a free e-learning course. Facebook has launched online training for journalists, focusing on the three core pillars of the news cycle: discovering content, creating stories and building an audience. Each module contains case studies in journalism as well as best practices and guidelines from Facebook. Courses include “How journalists can best utilize Facebook and Instagram,” along with product courses on Facebook Live, 360° videos, photos and Instant Articles. The platform also offers a guide for journalists explaining how to get started on Facebook or simply grow their presence. Find out how to participate on our website.
