UNIVERSAL Peace Federation (UPF) Zambia Chapter Secretary Malimba Masheke says media practitioners in Zambia should freely play their role as the eyes and ears of the public.
Officiating at a one-day Media Practitioners Seminar at the Peace Embassy in Lusaka themed: “Responsible Journalism in Pluralistic Society”, General Masheke said no one must thwart media personnel voices on issues of national concern.
General Masheke, who served as Zambia’s Prime Minister in the United National Independence Party (UNIP) Government of President Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda, admonished journalists as the Fourth Estate to be vigilant and responsible in exposing social ills.
And Media Consultant Sally Chiwama entreated media practitioners in Zambia to be united if the industry should grow.
Ms. Chiwama noted that the Zambian media can only in order to the industry be nurtured once scribes work as one adding that Journalists have the capability of transforming the country’s status.
“Journalists must not only concentrate on politics but report on Zambia’s cross-cutting developmental issues,” Ms. Chiwama said.
Ms. Chiwama prodded journalists in Zambia to take the forefront in promoting peace through ethical reportage.
