Fellow country men and women,
On behalf of our Party, the United Party for National Development (UPND) and indeed on my own behalf we wish to send our heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected President of Gambia, His Excellency, Adama Barrow, as well as the people of the Gambia.
His Excellency, Mr Barrow, a friend and colleague in the corporate world deservedly and democratically won the elections unseating the former President who ruled Gambia for 22 years.
What is even more gratifying is that the former President, did concede defeat despite having been in power that long, an indication that the will of the people was respected. This is of course unprecedented on our continent and the outgoing President deserves a big commendation.
The Gambians have spoken on behalf of the rest of Africa, that no matter how long it takes to impose oneself on the citizens, the people will have their last word and Democracy will prevail.This a good and valuable lesson to all of us in Africa which we should proudly emulate.
Congratulations once more my friend and colleague, President Barrow and we ask God to guide you as you lead our brothers and sisters in that great country.
