High Flying Nkwazi Break ‘Power Dynamos Ten Year Jinx’

THE Zambia Police Service sponsored outfit, ‘Up-to-the-minute’ ‘Floodlight’ training paid off as the Nkwazi Football Club’s self- belief of soaring through the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ-MTN) Super League 2018 season, became a ‘Dream Come True’ after narrowly beating Power Dynamos Football Club following a ten year ‘losing streak’ at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe, Copperbelt Province.
Nkwazi Football Club, tutored by a new coach staff led by Chris Kaunda and David Musole started the campaign scoring in the 15th minute through former captain Chipungu Musukuma, nicknamed ‘Michael Balak’ a German player for his love of ‘Friday 13th Jersey Number 13’ .
The Kitwe giants, with a rich history of winning the 1985 Rothmans of Pall Mall Cup, during the ‘hey days’ of the late Alex ‘Computer’ Chola, who died in the 1993 Gabon plane crash, lost the FAZ-MTN Super League Week 9 Midweek Game at Arthur Davies Stadium, played under flood lights.
Power Dynamos, last won a Super League title in 2011 with 2 games to spare beat Nkwazi Football, a game in which Forest Rangers coach Perry Mutapa played his last game before he retired at Arthur Davies Stadium to lift the trophy.
Former National Assembly Football Club Gamphin Lungu tried to make inroads in the 72nd minute in an effort restore parity for the Kitwe side, but former Under 20 Goal Keeper, Charles Mulemwa was alert and equal to the ‘Task at Hand’ denying Power Dynamos, the one point had the hosts scored the important goal.

Power Dynamos’ poor form continued on Wednesday evening following a 1-0 home defeat to Nkwazi at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

The result was Power’s first home loss and their second overall of the 2018 season.

It also came five days after they stuttered to a 0-0 away draw at Lumwana Radiants in a match goalkeeper Joshua Titima saved a penalty for the Kitwe giants.

Nkwazi punished Power for a wasteful first five minutes when Chipungu Musukuma scored the game’s lone goal in the 7th minute.

The goal came against the run of play that saw striker Alex Ng’onga and midfielder Kelvin Mubanga guilty of being over elaborate in front of Nkwazi’s goal.

Power stay 4th despite the defeat on 17 points, five points behind leaders Zesco.

But Zanaco suffered their second successive league defeat five days after Zesco beat them 1-0 away in Lusaka.

Zanaco lost by the same margin away at 16th placed Lumwana who won via Victor Mubanga goal in the 21st minute.

The 2017 runners-up drop from 8th to 9th on 13 points following the loss.
