YOUTH Vision Zambia (YVZ) Executive Director Amos Mwale has
challenged the Health Minister Dr Joseph Kasonde and his Ministry of Health (MoH) lieutenants at Ndeke House to pay attention to Sexual Reproductive Health by allocating more funding to the sector.
Mr. Mwale said sexual reproductive health deserves more attention if the escalating maternal mortality rate was to be reduced.
Mwale observed that failure to place priority of sexual reproductive health would eventually compromise interventions targeted at redressing maternal illnesses and deaths among expectant mothers.
“Paying attention to reproductive health has been our out cry all along and
we hope that the new Minister of Health Dr Joseph Kasonde will hear us and consider putting reproductive health as the first priority. How can maternal mortality rate can be reduced if reproductive health is not given all the attention it needs. A nation can not continue having the high mortality rate when it can be prevented by funding the sector,” Mwale advised.
Mwale observed that the integration of sexual reproductive health in HIV/AIDS programmes would give a human face to the fight against the vice.
“We will continue to talk about sexual reproductive health to ensure that it is given the special attention by the Government,” Mwale reiterated.
