Media Institute for South Africa (MISA Zambia) Chapter Chairperson Lorraine Chisanga says the
membership information session serves as a platform to update members on the latest development and activities.
Gracing the Thursday 1st February 2024 online interaction, delightfully described President Hakainde Hichilema assent to th Access To Information Bill into law, as significant milestone underscoring Zambia’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
After a two decade (20 year) wait, Ms. Chisanga reiterated MISA Zambia commendation to President Hichilema on what she termed a historic move towards fostering an open and informed Zambian society.
“This bill is a crucial step in the journey towards good governance and safeguarding citizens’ right to access information. it empowers the public, including media practitioners, to obtain essential information from public bodies.
the enactment of the ati is testament to misa zambia’s resilience on the ati matter. our work has paid off. thank you to you our members for playing a vital role in this advocacy work,” acknowledged Ms. Chisanga.
Further, Ms. Chisanga says it is a noteworthy achievement that misa zambia proudly acknowledges is the new dawn administrations forward-thinking approach to foster the growth and development of the media industry.
“This is exemplified by the recent announcement of a 3-year-tax holiday on broadcasting equipment, a commendable initiative outlined in Statutory Instrument No. 67 of 2023. i must report that misa Zambia made a submission towards this and it was granted. it is our hope that our members will take full advantage of this opportunity.
this initiative provides an invaluable opportunity for both newly licensed and existing broadcasting stations to enhance their capabilities and contribute to the enrichment of the media landscape. the 3-year suspension of customs and excise duty, extending until December 31, 2026, represents a significant step towards promoting technological advancement and innovation within the broadcasting sector,” ms. chisanga showered accolades on President Hichilema.
“I would like to express my gratitude for your attention and encourage us all to move forward with enthusiasm, purpose, and a renewed commitment to our shared values,” Ms. Chisanga told MISA Zambia members.
