ACCEPTING CHANGE: BALM TO THE SOUL
…Will save you from unnecessary stress.

IT reminds me of my own ‘redeployment’ in 2012 after the change of government. The entire News Desk was dismantled and its staff earmarked for dismissal, demotion or redeployment. I was the Deputy News Editor. What a turbulent time.
One day a minister rudely stormed into our editorial meeting brandishing a list of journalists perceived to be MMD sympathisers, who were on the waiting list for dismissal. I was on the list.
I was only saved by the then Managing Director, Mr Isaac Chipampe, who successfully defended me. But I was transfered to Livingstone as Chief of Bureau for the Southern region.
A bureau chief was at the level of a Senior Reporter who reported to the Chief Reporter. And the Chief Reporter reported to me, the Deputy News Editor.
The letter said the redeployment had not affected my salary grade and conditions of service. But the reality was that in terms of power, prestige and influence it was a demotion.
Mr. Chipampe consoled and encouraged me, “I know what you are capable of, and I am confident that you will deliver even where you are going.”
Well, I decided to bear my cross with a positive mind, bristling with morale and positive defiance. I turned it into an opportunity.
A few months later I received a surprise call from Mr. Chipampe. “We are impressed with what has been coming out of Livingstone. There is tremendous improvement in both sales and editorial coverage,” he said. Wow! Just what I needed.
A month later I received a brand new official 4×4 Toyota Hilux, a double increase in my office’s monthly petty cash float and two separate fuel accounts at two filling stations within Livingstone.
I bow for my hard working and supportive team – Jimmy Kalaluka, Chomba Musika, Champo Kaela Muyembe, Lucy Lumbe, Bertha Silokomela and our office driver whose name I can’t remember.
Every dark cloud comes with its own silver lining. Just open your eyes.

Fellow citizens,

We have been re – assigned to go and serve the Republic, and the people of Zambia, at our mission in Dar Es Salam, as Deputy High Commissioner.

As Zambia continues to pursue our rapid economic reconstruction agenda for more jobs and business opportunities for all, we must continue to invest in mutually beneficial relationships with countries in the region and beyond.

The President and the new administration have made so much positive progress since assuming leadership: the economy is on a clear path to growth, the new CDF model is delivering phenomenal economic development possibilities and opportunities for people in the communities where they live, while thousands of our children now have a real opportunity to attain basic education – thanks to the free education policy.

In order to consolidate our push to deliver improved livelihoods for all through trade and investment, we must leverage economic diplomacy to open up new markets, while expanding existing trade and investment channels with other nations.

With Zambia being open for business, we have a duty and responsibility to identify and harvest economic opportunities present in other countries, and work towards translating these opportunities into jobs and incomes for our people here at home.

We sincerely thank the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde HICHILEMA, and the people of Zambia, for the opportunity to serve, and we most look forward to our new assignment.
