DEFENSE Minister Davies Chama says a peaceful Zambia remains a priority assignment for the patriotic Front (PF) leadership of Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu and Ms. Inonge Mutukwa-Wina.
Assuring citizens and foreign investors, a confident, Mr. Chama, who previously served as PF Secretary General said involvement of the military was testimony that Government is determined to guarantee a Zambia viewed in both word and deed as an incomparable Oasis of Peace.
Chama, third in the leadership ladder at Cabinet Level, who was succeeded at the PF Secretariat by the incumbent, Mr. Mwila, says Government is on top of things in flushing all elements currently attempting to disrupt Zambia’s reputation as a place of secure refuge and good investment destination.
“The deployment of soldiers in the capital city does not mean an immediate stop to the gassing incidence reported in several parts of Lusaka because criminals are changing tactics. What we are trying to do is make sure that we provide necessary security for the Zambian people. Our soldiers are very professional. They are conducting themselves in a professional manner. Criminals will always complain because they want peoples live not to be secured. So those who are determined to make sure that they continue to destabilize, they will be uncomfortable with soldiers presence on the streets. You will find one or two complaints all the time. #peacezambia,”
Chama allayed fears. A cross-section of the Zambian online audience shared there individual perspectives thus: “Joseph Bwalya Hon we have received some reports that these officers are harressing people does that mean when they are on patrol they have to beat people they find on their way instead this culture is also very disturbing especially from those who are running their business during off peak hours.”
Dany Jere Put advised: “More security. We want peace in our country.” Jaq Finnie said: “Best thing. Please impose a curfew also.” Lighton Kanjungu: “The deployment and presence of soldiers makes us feel safe.” Leonard Tembo agreed: “True honourable Chama. Only those with questionable character will complain about the army presence in Lusaka. What we need is peace and please send us more of these officers so that peace prevails.
Brian Shizzo Manizzo This is a good move Honourable.”
Sandra Mundia said: “Honourable we really appreciate the efforts.. That’s what we wanted the security,, only those involved are the one complaining not the innocent citizens.. My plead even here in Kaoma we need more security.. Well done job honourable.. Much appreciations.”
Catherine Mwansa said it was a good move.
Esnart Sakala: “But they have to do the work which there have been told not to bet people any how thank you.” Kawesha Nsama: “We appreciate their presence on the streets.”
Dickson Mwape laughed the ministers intervention: “Kiki to late kuwayawayafye.” Benaiah Kabengele said: “We’re really thankful for the men and women in uniform for the job they are doing. Now we are able to sleep at least with less panicking to spend the whole night.”
Chrispine Mulenga said: “Thank you honourable for the security that our Government has provided to us may God bless you.” Ackim Makasa thanked the minister. Abiya Munyonshi asked: “Hon, we are not safe?” Modest Mwewa said it was a good move an saluted minister Chama.

Natasha Nyoka just said ‘Nic’. Sibongile Macron Mvula quizzed: “But don’t you think that even if the soldiers are on the street these people who gas will find a way through I think the best way you could have done is to give people something that will be protecting them from that substance?”
Anshell Alex Bwalya thanked a the minister for job well done. Daka Norman said it was a good move. Likando Mubita said: “Unfortunate they are just frogging citizens without searching and asking questions like identity of individuals ,where they are coming from and going ? They just beat and let go of individuals , it is just for fun . In the process they will miss domestic terrorists . It is about superiority , there should a liberate integration of the army with the Police so that the aspect of human rights respected because by the end of the operations there a lot of innocent people who have been tortured soldiers is legally and politically wrong . Such misconduct is political sabotage on the ruling party. Deployment of soldiers is in good faith but they should not harass and abuse innocent civilians. People they don’t where report case of assault committed by soldiers for no reason.”
Exildah Mwansa: “True honourable minister U are blessed and we are blessed to have you in our nation’s.” Rainbow Zambia Edition 067 Sunday 23rd March 2020 – Saturday 29th March 2020 published by Rainbow Newspaper Zambia Limited www.rainbownewszambia.com
