YWCA-WILSA will raise standards of Living, vows Tracy Sichinga

YOUNG Women Christian Association (YWCA) President Tracy Sichinga says that persistent Gender Violence and early marriages has gotten its toll in Slum dwelling communities , hence YWCA and Women and Law in Southern Africa(WILSA) carrying out a survey to identify locate solutions.
Ms. Sichinga explained that the Baseline Survey was prompted by increased cases Gender Based Violence (GBV), early marriages and growing school dropouts in George and Linda Township.
The development activist cried foul over rising poverty levels in George and Linda Township during the launch of a Citizen Report Card (CRC) on Young Women in Slum Dwelling Communities at Matero Community Hall in Lusaka.
The Young Women Christian Association Women and WILSA are partnering with Government to implement the empowerment project through Comic relief and Care International.
“The projects goal is to uplift young women in George and Linda compound and other Slum Dwelling Communities (SDC) to have happy and healthy lives free from violence and poverty.
Sichinga refuted allegations that YWCA continuously facilitates failed marriages through encouraging divorce among couples involved in Gender Based Violence (GBV).
“Some people who are not well informed are have given us a primitive tag that we are involved in ending marriages through divorces , but our aim to protect women who in abusive relationships and happen to be hopeless and helpless and so come their rescue,” Sichinga lamented.
Ms. Sichinga is targeting young women aged 15 to 24-year-old young people as Gender Based Violence (GBV) Survivors and curbing GBV.
“We are aiming to empower 5,712 young people, women and men through accessing safe space and membership activities targeted at 7,200 communities raising awareness Gender equality in the next four( 4) years from January 2015 to December 2018,” pledged Ms. Sichinga.
