Former Bank of Zambia Governor, Dr Caleb Fundanga is among African business executives selected as Intra African Trade Fair (IATF) 2018 Active and Goodwill Ambassadors whose event is set for Cairo, Egypt from 11th to 17 December, 2018.
And the Egyptian embassy in Lusaka has maintained that it will expedite the processing of Visas for companies and individuals who want to attend the event and who have registered with organizers of the event.
According to the information obtained from the IATF organizers by the Embassy, Dr Fundanga has been selected as IATF Active Ambassador representing Zambia at this inaugural Trade Fair and his selection is based on the vast knowledge and experience in understanding of the global economic and financial setup.
Dr Fundanga has been the Executive Director of the Macro Economic and Financial Management Institute (MEFMI) for Eastern and Southern Africa since July 2014. MEFMI is a regional capacity building institution in the areas of Macro Economic and Financial Management based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Prior to joining MEFMI, he had worked as Governor of the Bank of Zambia for the period 2002 to 2011. Among the many accolades bestowed upon him during this period were; Central Bank Governor of the Year for Africa and Global award by the Banker Magazine, a sister publication to the Financial Times of London in January 2007, In September 2007, he was also awarded the African Central Bank Governor of the Year 2008 by the Annual Meetings Daily of Nigeria.
Prior to joining the Bank of Zambia, he had worked as Senior Advisor to the President of the African Development Bank (1998-2002) and as Executive Director of the African Development Bank (1995-1998). Before joining the African Development Bank, he served as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Finance, Cabinet Office and the National Commission for Development Planning of the Republic of Zambia.

On list of IATF Ambassadors there is also Dr Agostinho Kapaia, CEO of the Opaia Group, based in Angola, Mr Rakesh Wahi, IATF 2018 Goodwill Ambassador, South Africa, is the founder of the ABN Group, a media holding company for CNBC Africa and Forbes Africa, Professor João Bosco Monte, President of the Brazil Africa Institute, is an Intra-African Trade Fair Active Ambassador, and Mr Strive T. Masiyiwa is the Founder of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited (alternately Econet Wireless Holdings Ltd).
Others are Rt. Hon Mark Simmonds is an Active Ambassador based in the United Kingdom. He served as a Member of the UK Parliament for 14 years, and was until recently a Foreign & Commonwealth Office Minister with responsibilities for Africa, and Carol Pineau is in Active Ambassador based in Washington DC, Ms Pineau an award-winning filmmaker and journalist with more than 20 years of experience reporting on Africa, and is the producer and host of a new current events talk show, Africa-USA Now, on the intersection of Africa and the US.
And the rest are Mr Ashraf Talaat is an acclaimed photographer and filmmaker based in Cairo, Egypt, Mr Alec Erwin is an Intra-African Trade Fair Active Ambassador representing South Africa, Mr. Jena has been the Chairman of the ZimTrade Board since October 2014. Mr. Jena is President and Fellow of the Southern Africa Institute of Marketing (SAIM) and Acclaimed Nigerian actress and producer, and Ms Rita Dominic, has been appointed as an IATF Goodwill Ambassador.
The IATF 2018, which will take place at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre, will provide a platform for sharing trade, investment and market information and opportunities. It will enable buyers and sellers, investors and countries to conclude business deals. IATF2018 is expected, over the seven days, to bring together more than 1,000 exhibitors from across Africa and beyond and to attract more than 70,000 visitors, buyers and sellers, generating in excess of $25 billion in trade deals.

And Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia, Ahmed Mostafa said the companies and individuals intending to attend the IATF will be assisted in the visa issuance as long as they have done the prior registration with event organizers online. The embassy expects a number of Zambian business entities to attend at benefit from this inaugural trade fair.

Meanwhile, H.E Mostafa has said that the IATF will be preceded by another big conference, The Africa 2018 forum-business for Africa and the world which is an international, landmark event hosted under the High Patronage of H.E Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, aiming to promote greater economic integration through increased investment flows into Africa.

The event takes place from the 8-9 of December 2018 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, and is organized by the Government of Egypt –through the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation- and COMESA Regional Investment Agency (RIA).
The two-day Forum will convene more than 1,000 leaders in business and policy from across Africa and the world. It promises to be the biggest and most important gathering taking place in Africa this year. With Egypt, and President Al Sisi, taking over the Chairmanship of African Union in 2019 and it will be the forum that will help shape Africa’s agenda in 2019.
