PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK- DINGINDABA JONAH BUYOYA

DINGINDABA JONAH BUYOYA is a young, self-motivated and energetic person, who says that the world has one standard which states that: “It doesn’t matter where you’re from but what matters is how you define success”.

Born on the 7th of February 1997 in Choma Town, Southern Province in a family of 6, it had always been Buyoya’s childhood dream to pursue a career in the Media Industry.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: In 2000,Buyoya stepped in class at a named private school in Mazabuka, and during Secondary School became a very resilient participant in debate.

While at St Edmund’s Secondary School in Mazabuka, Buyoya was awarded as the best speaker on a number of Events and later on served as the Chairperson in the Debate Club.

CAREER LIFE: At the age of 17, Buyoya followed his passion in the Media Industry becoming a presenter at Comet Radio in Lusaka.

Whilst serving at Comet Radio, Buyoya hosted a number of shows plus one of his own- Jonah Radio Nutz.

In 2015, QTV tagged as ‘Experience Home’ called upon Buyoya’s services and later on by God’s Grace he became Senior Producer at QTV.

In March 2017, Jonah joined the Costa Mwansa, Frank Mutubila and George Chomba run Diamond Television on Bwinjimfumu Road, Rhodespark, Lusaka -whose tagline is ‘Television Re-invented’ as a Television host and News Caster and in July he was promoted as Productions Manager.

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS: At 18 years, Buyoya was shortlisted for PG Zambia Young Zambian Business Journalist of the year award, making him the youngest ever participant.

In 2016, Buyoya was nominated for the best weekend show at the Zambian Radio awards.

Buyoya won as Best Television Presenter at the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Awards 2017.

-In addition on the 2nd December 2017 he successfully hosted the Unza Alumni Relations and Advancement Gala Dinner which was attended by President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and former First Republican President, Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda.

When asked his influential inspirations Buyoya pointed at Robert Marawa and Komla Afeke Dumor (3 October 1972 – 18 January 2014), a Ghanaian journalist who worked for BBC World News as Focus on Africa main presenter, which he hopes to host someday.

CONCLUSION: DINGINDABA’S message to the Youths: “Failure is the best motivation to try even harder”.

At the Age of 20, Buyoya became Diamond Television  Productions Manager. ‘If Jonah did it Even you and I Can’, paraphrasing former 44^th President of the United States of America (USA), Barrack Hussein Obama II, born on August 4, 1961. Borrowing a cue from Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama, an American lawyer and writer who served as the ‘First Black First Lady’ of the United States from 2009 to 2017, born on January 17, 1964, the youthful Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya is preparing to take leadership in broadcasting.

Mrs. Obama continuously prods children, young people and women to prepare for management portfolios.
