THE Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishop (ZCCB)will host the 5th Pioneer Pan African Congress in Lusaka from 21st to 27th August, 2017 at the Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese of Lusaka, under the theme; Working together to make Africa sober.
Preparations for Zambia to host the 5th Pioneer Pan African Congress on Faith and Alcohol in Africa have advanced with National Pioneer Chaplain for Zambia Father Charles Season, Society of Jesuits (SJ) reiterated a call on the Government of Zambia to regulate alcohol consumption through the enactment of a National Alcohol Policy (NAP).
Speaking in Lusaka at a media briefing to announce the 5th Pioneer Pan African Congress on Faith and Alcohol in Africa on Friday, 17th March, 2017, Fr. Season, SJ expressed worry at the consumption rate of alcohol in Zambia and other African nations.
“Alcohol has a great negative effect on the national moral and economic fabric, and demanded that Zambia implements the National Alcohol Policy before August, 2017,” prodded Fr. Season, SJ .
Meanwhile, Fr. Charles Season, SJ has announced that preparations for Zambia to host the 5th Pioneer Pan African Congress on Faith and Alcohol in Africa have advanced with three countries; Kenya, South Africa and Mauritius confirming attendance at Episcopal, individual and Pioneer Movement levels.
The Congress will also attract teachers, counsellors, medical and government officials, who Fr. Searson, SJ said are concerned with the increasing misery brought to families and communities as a result of the abuse of Alcohol.
One of the highlights of the Congress will be a presentation by each participating country on its status of the National Alcohol Policy.
In a Friday 17th March, 2017, Media Statement circulated from Lusaka by Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishop (ZCCB) Communications Officer Mwenya Mukuka, South Africa, Kenya, Mauritius, Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana, Zimbabwe Nigeria and DRC Congo are expected to attend.
