Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) programmes manager Mayamba Sitali, has announced that coaches at the Centre are well prepared to utilise the 2017 Teulings Youth Sports Challenge to develop and produce future Olympic gold medalists ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.
Sitali, says the last few years the Teulings League hosted at the Centre, annually have greatly helped identify, develop and select athletes to play in the national teams and local clubs.
He says the Centre expects the best out of athletes who will be participating in the league Games adding that individual athletes who are not part of the Teulings programme and prove to have the skill for sport will be given sponsorship.
The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge has four (4) sports disciplines hockey, basketball, tennis, and volleyball supported by Mr. Coen Teulings, Chief Executive of the Merifini Capital in Belgium.
Meanwhile, Over 200 athletes will on Saturday 11th March, 2017 compete in the Teulings Basketball league at the OYDC. Teulings Basketball coordinator Nicolas Phiri, has named Mapoloto, Bulldogs, and Sport in Action, Buffaloes, Matero Magic and Breathe of Heaven as some of the U15 teams to be competing.
He says the players will be using the 3 on 3 format stating that all the invited teams are ready for the tourney.
The Teulings project has helped positively change people’s lives and hugely contributed to the formation of youth leagues that have given a lot of youth the opportunity to participate in organised and competitive sport.
