Scholars from Russia, Brazil, and Africa gathered at Lomonosov Moscow State University on January 23rd for an international conference focused on strengthening cooperation within the Global South.
Over 110 leading academics from 25 countries, including 90 international participants, attended the event, titled “Russia, Brazil and Africa: Strengthening Cooperation of the Global South.”
The conference addressed critical issues, including navigating the current crisis in global governance, overcoming economic imbalances, and combating climate change.
Key speakers included the Rector of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto de Andrade Medroño, and the President of the Egyptian University of Distance Learning, Hisham Mohamed Abdelsalam.
Participants emphasized the need for a more equitable global order, moving away from Western dominance and towards a system based on equality and sovereignty for all nations.
The conference highlighted the importance of education and academic cooperation in fostering stronger ties between the Global South nations.
A youth session featured presentations by young scientists, demonstrating the emerging leadership within the Global South.
Organizers expressed hope that the conference will serve as a foundation for future collaborative initiatives and strengthen understanding between the participating countries.
Dr. Lubinda Habazoka, a University of Zambia lecturer, during his presentation stressed the crucial role of BRICS nations in Africa’s infrastructure development.
BRICS countries provide significant investment, financing, and technology transfer for projects in transportation, energy, and telecommunications.
This support fuels economic growth and strengthens trade ties, benefiting both Africa and BRICS through increased exports and imports.
Furthermore, BRICS actively shares knowledge and technology with African nations, fostering innovation and sustainable development.
Policy coordination, facilitated by platforms like the BRICS outreach dialogue, is key to strengthening this vital partnership.
