In an effort to safeguard the agricultural landscape in Chifunabuli district, under the Ministry of Agriculture in Luapula province, officials have intensified fall army worm training for both officers and farmers.
Speaking exclusively to NAIS, Chifunabuli Senior Agriculture Officer, Mr. Greenford Musonda, highlighted the training’s focus on crucial aspects such as identifying the larvae, proper handling of chemicals, and overall preparedness.
“We are here to emphasize the importance of this training because army worms pose a serious threat to food security,” stressed the Senior Agriculture Officer.
Ms Chimanda Prudence, one of the officers in attendance, deemed the training as indispensable for the upcoming farming season.
“This is vital for us officers as it equips us to effectively deal with army worm infestations,” she remarked, underlining the significance of preparedness.
Another officer, Mr. Michael Nondo, expressed gratitude to the government for initiating this training.
He affirmed their readiness to confront the challenge posed by army worms and assured that they are prepared to extend this knowledge to local farmers.
The collective effort aims not only to combat the current threat but also to empower the farming community against potential future infestations.
