David ‘Sniper’ Mwale Wins ABU Vacant Bantamweight Belt

The suspense is over, the long awaited fight as to who finally occupies the African Boxing Union (ABU) vacant bantamweight belt came in to being on Saturday, 16th December 2023 when Zambian pugilist David ‘Sniper’ Mwale defeat Innocent ‘Tycoon Matengu of South Africa through an unanimous point decision following a 12 rounds boxing match at Lusaka’s New Government Complex.
The Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion organized tournament saw Mwale crowned as new ABU bantamweight champion despite being slightly shorter than his opponent, unleashed a spectacular flurry of punches in the 5th Round aiming for a straight knock out and finish the business of the night, but instead ended up scoring more points.
The fight started on a fast pace with host boxer Mwale being cheered by a home crowd advancing to avoid going very far in the 12th round, but the South African opponent felt at home and was all smiles after singing alone to the Zambia National Anthem that sounds like theirs resisted an early knockout from the new ABU bantamweight champion will face another challenger in May 2024.
The Christopher Malunga led OQBP team were gender balanced and brought in a ladies fight that saw female Super Bantamweight Lina Kasweka defeat Loveness Koka of Malawi through a technical knockout in fast paced bout with the visitor putting up a good fight in the first round, but failed to get to the third round. – The Bundas Incorporated Blogspot
