President of the Socialist Party Dr. Fred M’membe Zambia is not only time to casually celebrate freedom but prods citizens to express gratitude to those who made it possible to gain political liberty.
Dr. M’membe recollected that the journey to independence was marked by sacrifices and incomparable determination.
Acknowledging forefathers led by former First Republican President, the late Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda, former Republican Vce President, the late Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe and founder of the African National Congress (ANC), the late Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula, Dr. M’membe says the responsibility to honour those sacrifices is by citizens making the most of the existing opportunities.
“Today, as we celebrate Independence Day, let’s remember the sacrifices made by our forefathers who fought tirelessly for our freedom. On this remarkable day, let’s honour the spirit of our nation’s independence. Today, let’s remember the leaders who guided us through our struggle for freedom,” admonished Dr. M’membe.
Dr. M’membe says as citizens enjoy the rights and privileges secured by Kaunda, Kapwepwe and Nkumbula, it is imperative to remember the responsibilities shouldered by the present generation.
“Our country’s progress depends on our actions. Let’s be responsible citizens who contribute positively to society. Whether it’s protecting the environment, promoting equality, or pursuing education, each of you can make a difference. The future of our nation is in your hands. Independence Day reminds us that despite our diverse cultures, languages, and traditions, we are all united as one nation. Let’s remember that our actions today will shape the Zambia of tomorrow.
Our unity is our strength. Let’s celebrate our diversity and use it to create a harmonious society,” advised Dr. M’membe.
Dr.M’membe wants citizens to use the 59th Independence Day, which fell on Tuesday, 24th October, 2023 as an opportunity to pledge to solidarity, supporting each other’s dreams and aspirations.
“Let’s strive for knowledge, for it is knowledge that empowers us to make informed decisions for our nation’s growth.
Independence is not just about being free from external control; it’s also about unity
and working together as a nation. Let’s cherish the diversity that makes our country rich and unique. So, let’s take this day as an opportunity to reflect on our responsibilities towards our country and work towards making it even better,” prodded Dr. M’membe.
Happy Independence Day!
