The Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA), formerly Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) was established through the Tourism and Hospitality Act No.13 of 2015 after the repealing of Zambia Tourism Board Act No.24 of 2007.
The 2015 Act mandates ZTA to effectively market and promote Zambia as a tourism and travel destination of choice and to regulate the tourism industry.
The ZTA is headed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who reports to a Board of Directors.
In addition to its marketing function, the Zambia Tourism Agency will now also be responsible for the issuance of licenses to all tourism enterprises. This follows the repealing of the Zambia Tourism Board Act No. 24 of 2007 and the creation of the Tourism and Hospitality Act No. 13 of 2015. The new 2015 Act mandates ZTA ‘to effectively market and promote Zambia as a tourism and travel destination of choice and to regulate the tourism industry’ .
Under the new act, ZTA has been empowered to: license tourism enterprises, set standards and carry out inspections, ensure conformity to minimum set standards. This is in addition to the old function of promotion and marketing Zambia’s tourism products.
