Ndola, April 18,2023, ZANIS—Minister of Labour and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba says the signing of the Pensions Scheme amendment act No 1 of 2023 into Law by President Hakainde Hichilema demonstrates government’s commitment to the wellbeing of the People.
Ms. Tambatamba says President Hichilema has kept his promise by ensuring that workers that contribute to National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA) start accessing a 20 percent of their terminal benefits.
She said the people’s lives will now improve as they will have part of their pension’s money to startup businesses.
ZAINS reports that the Minister of Labour and Social Services said this when she called on her counterpart Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo at his office in Ndola today.
Ms.Tambatamba said she was in the province to visit some companies and remind the employers about the decent work agenda.
And Mr. Matambo has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema, Ms. Tambatamba for perusing the pensions act scheme into a law.
He said most employees have been waiting for the law so that they can start collecting part of their benefits.
“People used to come to my office to ask about the amendment act. Now I am happy that yesterday the pension’s scheme became law,” he said.
He has since called on the Labour unions to educate their members about their rights at a workplace so that there are no misunderstandings between the employer and employees.
He added that most employees don’t understand where their rights start and end hence causing conflicts at their places of work.
