By Cynthia Tamara Nkhata in Lusaka, Zambia
Barely 371 days before Zambians Vote on Thursday 12th August 2021 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Elections, Patriotic Front (PF) National Youth League Vice Chairman Benjamin Siwila is concerned with young citizens reluctance to exercise their inalienable civic responsibility and obligation of obtaining their National Registration Cards (NRC) as a basis on which to obtain Voters’ Card.
Mr. Siwila said this this at Diana Kaimba School in Matero Constituency, on Thursday 6th August 2020, in Mwembeshi Ward as he donated 200 litres of Handy Sanitisers and Face Masks to help fight the now global Coronavirus (covid-19) which has not spared Zambia.
Siwila observed that the effects of Covid-19 pandemic have been kept to minimum levels through President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s diligence.
“Dr. Lungu’s proven quality leadership is delivering unprecedented infrastructure development in order to secure the future of pupils, manifested by this donation of Handy Sanitisers as the President you in his heart. schools, roads, hospitals and industries have been built for the pupils to find jobs when they graduate from colleges and universities,” said Siwila flanked by National Youth Secretary General Gabriel Isaac Kibombwe, Afzal Essa, Scholastica Phiri and National Youth Media Director Elijah Mutambo.
He thanked Zedverts who donated 200 reusable face masks and Surya Bio-fuel Ltd for donating 200 litres of Hand Sanitizer.
Meanwhile, School Head Teacher Modesty Nondo said his school is blessed to have been given the Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE’s).
“It is commendable for the PF National Youth League leadership to give us PPE’s in a period when everyone is concerned on how to protect themselves from the deadly virus. Pupils and teachers will be protected from contracting the virus, as they are the future of tomorrow, *’imiti ikula empanga,’* Mr. Nondo paraphrased a bemba adage of old.
In a Vote of Thanks, Grade 9L pupil, Agness Muchizi said the donation came at the right time when numbers testing positive were rising sky and more people dying.
“This is an extraordinary time demanding extraordinary measures, hence the need to utilise donated PPE’s to protect pupils from contracting covid 19,” advised Ms. Muchizi.
