COMMON Market for Southern and Eastern Africa (COMESA) Assistant Secretary General Dr. Kipyego Cheluget brags over Africa’s potential for hydro energy.
Zambia with 40 percent water resources boasts of being endowed as a leader of renewable energy.
Officiating Lusaka’s Intercontinental Hotel during the 31st January to 2nd February 2017 Sustainable Energy Southern Africa Forum of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership, Dr. Cheluget conceded that energy is a common challenge in Africa.
The COMESA Assistant General hosted a multi-stakeholders forum on Sustainable Energy, in collaboration with the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) supported by the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP).
“The 7th National Plan Sustainable in Energy cannot be achieved by the private sector alone. Civil Society Organisations and COMESA Member States must participate to make it possible to mobilize the solutions to this energy challenge,” Dr. Cheluget prodded.
Dr Cheluget says COMESA Member States consumed 625 per capital of energy in 2015, noting Africa’s potential to export energy outside the continent.
COMESA Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya and Assistant Secretary General (Adminstratiobn and Finance) Ambassador Nagla El-Hussainy hosted the Lusaka meeting.
