TECHNOLOGY and Science Minister Felix Chipota Mutati is ready to collaboration and support improvement of the people’s lives anchored on the Zambia’s transformation agenda laid on a solid base for technology, science, research, innovation and skills development.
Currently serving as Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), an optimistic Mr.Mutati is elated with Zambia’s ‘s progression though achieving results is hampered inadequate infrastructure, low connectivity, limited skills and lack of capacity by entreprenuers to invest in innovation.
Citing infrastructure penetrationat forty-eight per cent (48%), connectivity taking a sixty-eight per cent (68% )rate, skills pegged at forty-one (41%), innovation, with the index at thirty-four per cent (34%) and investment into innovation at a worrying sixteen per cent (16%), a confident Mutati believes investment in research and science will narrow the digital divide between the rich and poor. Speaking at a Zambia – Italian Cultural Centre forum attended by Italian Ambassador to Zambia Mr Antonino Maggiore and Ndeke Hotel proprietor, Gaudêncio Rossi, Mutati said: “Italy, as a leader of the fourth industrial revolution, and Italian business leaders must seek untapped opportunities, improve the people’s lives. Italy as Europe’s second largest manufacturing economy and third largest exporter of flexible manufacturing technologies, including robotics valued at US$9.6 billion to the US alone”.
And seeking European Union collaboration, Mutati said the New Dawn Adminstration intends to take full profit from emerging technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence robotics, 3-D printing, 5G technology, high performance computing and block chain technology in order to reduce gaps that hold back inclusive and sustainable development.
