CONTINENTAL Leadership Research Institute (CLRI) Executive Director Mundia Paul Hakoola
has congratulated the President Elect His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema on his election as the 7th President of Zambia.
In a Tuesday 16th August 2021 Media Statement, Mr. Hakoola expressed delight that Mr. Hichilema’s election breaks the unconstitutional tribal segregation in Zambian, and actually sent a message to the world of improved democratic process through an opposition leader unseating an incúmbent.
An elated Hakoola says the poll reaffirmed Zambia’s record of peace, attested by Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu assurance as a sitting head of State.
Speaking earlier in a concession speech, Dr. Lungu assured citizens of a peaceful transitition of power.
However, Hakoola regretted acts of violence that took place in some parts of the country, which President Elect Hichilema equally described as unfortunate.
“It is sad that selective application of the law during campaigns, though the Continental Leadership Research Institute is satisfied that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) managed to conduct the process in a sober manner which saw the election of the President Elect and other candidates at different levels,” noted Hakoola.
Hakoola says a lot work lies ahead of the President Elect, through unifying the country as a key element to ensure that regional balancing is achieved in the selection of the cabinet, by incorporating women and youths should be considered our previous government had non youths represented in their cabinet our view as institute is that youths and women.
“All marginalized communities, young people, and women must be included in decision making process for effective policy formulation and implementation and not to bundle them in the security wing.
Going forward non-violence approach is expected towards the way the losing PF will be dealt with by the incoming UPND government and the motto of one Zambia One Nation has to be brought to manifestation,” observed Hakoola.
Hakoola says the Continental Leadership Research Institute is waiting to hear other policy direction, through Hichilema’s inauguration speech on how the UPND government will deal with a number of fundamental issues affect the Zambian people.
Hakoola welcomed the directive by President Elect Hichilema urging UPND cadres to stop any form of violence.
“UPND cadres must realise that what made the PF very unpopular was created parallel governance structures that undermined legal institutions of governance. The institute wishes the President Elect His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema well and is glad to mention that the move that President Lungu to assure peaceful transfer of power is a good move that makes Zambia’s democracy stronger as a role model in Africa,” Hakoola prayed.
