PARTY of National Unity and Progress (PNUP) President Highvie Hamududu says his time once elected on Thursday 12th August 2021 will strongly advocate for civil service reforms to ensure that government does not exist for itself but for the people.
During a Thursday 18th March 2021 Press Briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Hamududu said Cabinet positions need to be right-sized so that public resources are diverted towards service delivery.
Formerly chairperson of Expanded Parliamentary Committee on Estimates, Mr. Hamududu said government must exist as a conduit of service delivery that meets the people’s development aspirations and improve their welfare.
“The current government wage bill that gobbles 50 per cent of the national budget is an indication of a bloated public service. These envisaged civil service reforms must start at the top by amalgamating a few ministries performing related functions,” proposed Mr. Hamududu.
Mr. Hamududu, an economist by profession said the reforms will translate into one-stop public institutions that are multi-tasking as they seek to deliver sustainable services up to grassroots level.
