Youths from the Hakainde Hichilema’s United Party for National Development (UPND) and Dr. Chishimba Kambwili’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) will go on the streets to push the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to extend the thirty (30) day Sunday 9th November 2020 – Saturday 12th December Voter Registration Exercise.
NDC Lusaka Provincial Youth Chairperson Nachama Simulinda and UPND Lusaka Youth Provincial Chairperson Anderson Banda told journalists at a joint media briefing that lots of people will be denied right to voter should the voter registration exercise is not extended.
Mr. Simulinda noted many teething challenges concerning voter registration, prompting him to demand a thirty day extension, with a lament that the situation is worse in rural areas, where the system is worse.
“It is the right of every Zambia to vote and can only vote if they have cards. I advise the Government to fund the ECZ to enable it do its work efficiently,” advised Simulinda.
On his part, Banda said it is prudent for the electoral body to listen to the people on the clarion call to extend the on-going Voter Registration Exercise.
“The UPND is on record having doubted the ECZ capacity to register nine (9) million voters within a thirty day period. We want the Voter Registration Exercise extended to 30th January 2020. The people not only have their business lost but lives threatened due to the act by the ECZ to give cards in the night
