UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Chairperson for Elections Garry Nkombo has abandoned his burning desire to have President Edgar Chagwa Lungu impeached on account of Constitutional breaches.
Mr, Nkombo, a UPND Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament in the Southern Province attributed the decision to dim the candlelight on President Lungu’s impeachment to impediments by the National Assembly.
A concerning Nkombo told journalists at the UPND Secretariat that at the time the motion for impeachment was moved, a court action was in motion and could not proceed until the matter is disposed off.
“I regret that this impeachment desire has to be stopped, so that I concentrate on campaigning for the UPND ahead of the Thursday 12th August 2021 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Election. I wondered why the Speaker of the National Assembly State Counsel Patrick Matibini decided to deny the impeachment motion until the matter is concluded in court,” regretted Nkombo, stating that Parliament is expected to be dissolved by President Edgar Chagwa Lungu on Wednesday 12th May 2020, approximately within a five (5) months period.
