Lab Technician Ian Mutambo and 3 others die in Power Tools Bus accident

SUNDAY, 3rd May 2020- The Ministry of Health has confirmed and regretted the death of Ian Mutambo a Lab Technician from Zambezi District Hospital who lost his life in a road traffic accident in the time of duty.

Ian was transporting samples of suspected Coronavirus Disease from Zambezi on a power tools bus which was involved in a fatal accident on Saturday 2nd May 2020 in Manyinga District of Northwestern Province killing 3 other people aboard.
Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya is saddened, disclosing that it is the first time samples of suspected COVID-19 were being transported by public transport, and unfortunately a gallant young frontline health practitioner lost his life.
Dr. Chilufya says a detailed report will be issued after investigations.
A moment of silence was observed this morning during the daily COVID-19 media update, in memory of Ian Mutambo and 3 others who died in the power tools bus accident.
