Zambian delegation arrives in Berlin for Intergovernmental negotiations on Development Cooperation

Germany, Monday December 5, 2016 – A Zambian delegation headed by the Ministry of Finance Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Fredson Yamba has arrived in Berlin, Germany for a week-long Intergovernmental Negotiations on Development Cooperation between the Government of Republic of Zambia and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Mr. Yamba and his delegation arrived at Tegel International Airport in Berlin this morning and were met by officials from Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Also present to receive the delegation was First Secretary for Economic Mr. Martin Mmembe and First Secretary for Press, Yvonne P. Shibemba at the Embassy of Zambia.
The negotiations will take place in Berlin from Monday 5th December until Friday 9th December 2016 to determine the scope of the German bilateral development cooperation with Zambia for the period 2016 – 2018.
In February this year, Preparatory Consultations on the future portfolio of German-Zambian Development Cooperation were conducted in Lusaka with noted focal areas of cooperation being Water and Sanitation, Good Governance (Good Financial Governance, Decentralization, and Civil Society Participation) as well as Energy, Agriculture/Nutrition and HIV/AIDS Prevention.
Aside from the negotiations that will take place, the Secretary to Treasury with his delegation are also expected to visit a Renewable Energy site, Solar Park Dallgow-Doberitz and the Berlin Water works (Sewerage Treatment Plant).
The Zambian delegation includes senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of National Planning, Ministry of Local Government and Housing, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Justice and Cabinet Office.
Others on Mr. Yamba’s delegation are senior officials from the Zambia Revenue Authority and National Aids Council.
Zambia’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Ambassador Bwalya Chiti will also be part of the delegation.

The delegation is expected to return to Lusaka on Saturday 10th December 2016.
